Im Finale des vergangenen Jahres traf Carlos Alcaraz auf Alexander Zverev. Bei den drei vorherigen Auflagen scheiterte der Hamburger jeweils im Halbfinale. Der Spanier holte sich den Sieg nach einem offenen Kampf in fünf Sätzen. Es war der erste French-Open-Titel in seiner Karriere und sein dritter Major-Titel insgesamt. In den vergangenen Jahren wurde das Turnier von zwei Spielern dominiert. Seit 2016 ging der Titel entweder an seinen Landsmann Rafael Nadal oder den Serben Novak Djokovic.
